MILFORD TRACK - Winter Transport Package

Milford Track Winter Transport Package for Experienced Hikers who want to explore the Milford Track at its most wild. In the winter the huts are un-serviced, you are responsible for your own safety and the correct equipment must be carried. Links are provided below to assist your planning. Gear Hire and many provisions are available in Te Anau (departure point).

Te Anau to Glade Wharf & Sandfly Point to Te Anau - Total cost $190 per person.

- Minibus from Te Anau to Te Anau Downs
- Fast boat to Glade Wharf (start of the Milford Track)
- Pick-up at Sandfly Point by motor boat.
- Bus back to Te Anau via the Milford Road, one of New Zealand's most scenic highways.
Confirmed departures are advertised here - for other dates please contact us. *A minimum of four (4) passengers is required on each departure.

Departure Details
Departing Te Anau at 8.15am (or *10.15am) to Glade Wharf (maximum of 13 people per Bus and Boat)
* a 10.30am departure may be available once 8.30am departure is full - please enquire if no availability is showing.

Boat from Sandfly Point to Milford Sound departing from Sandfly Point at 2.00pm, the bus from Milford Sound to Te Anau will depart shortly after this time.

**Bookings are essential, Tracknet are permitted to transport a maximum of 26 people per day to Glade Wharf.

Out of Season Milford Track Transport package is operated by TRACKNET in conjunction with Milford Sound Sea Kayaks:

- During the Off Peak/Winter Season (Late April to mid October) departures are subject to conditions including snow and weather allowing the Milford Track to be accessible and passable.
- Minimum number of four (4) passengers required to confirm a departure
- Huts and Track is un-serviced; hikers are completely self sufficient and responsible for own safety
- Hazards may exist on the track including avalanche, river crossing, extreme cold, flooding, landslide etc. Hikers must be adequately prepared
- Package is for Transport only as described below

DOC Hut Fees Apply - hut tickets must be purchased at the Department of Conservation Centre prior to departure.

You are responsible for your own safety. Please ensure your group is well equipped and carrying the correct equipment for your journey. Tracknet reserves the right not to transport poorly equipped individuals; all departures are subject to lake, weather & track conditions.

Tracknet Strongly suggests that:

Intention Forms should be completed before departure and left with your trusted contact.
Mountain Radios or Personal Locator Beacons should be carried - In Te Anau Stu's place hire Mountain Radio's (+64 3 249 8363 = $50.00 for 3-7 days) and Mobil Te Anau hire Personal Locator Beacons (+64 3 249 7247 = $35.00 for 7 days).

Some bridges are removed to avoid damage from avalanches and some facilities are not available, hut tickets are necessary.

- Hut Information:

Radios, gas cooking rings, fuel for heating and lighting are REMOVED from huts. They will not have running water but a nearby water supply is available. Flush toilets are closed but a winter pit toilet is provided.

- Equipment Considerations:

In addition to the equipment listed for walking during the Great Walks Peak Season you should also carry: a gas cooker, toilet paper, torch or gas light for at night in hut, extra food in case you are delayed on the track, extra warm clothing, mountain radio or personal locator beacon (PLB).

- Have you read and understood the winter conditions provided on the Department of Conservation website?
- Huts are not serviced (water, firewood, gas etc).
- It is strongly recommended that you carry a Personal Locator Beacon / Mountain Radio.
- All departures are weather / track dependant - Check with Department of Conservation prior to YOUR departure for current Track conditions.
- You should complete an intentions form and leave this with your trusted contact.
- Hut passes are required and may be purchased from the Te Anau Department of Conservation.
- You are responsible for your own safety.

No refund after departure on to track.
Full refund - if cancellation is made outside 24 hours or if DOC cancel departure.
90% refund - if cancellation is within 4 - 24 hours prior to departure.
No refund - if cancellation is made within 4 hours of departure or a 'No Show'.
If the track is closed after walking has begun, Tracknet and their partners reserve the right to use any remaining portion of ticketed fare towards the cost of transport to safety, in extreme cases clients will be liable for extra transport expenses.
